UK Car Imports logo

How It Works

A clear, flexible way to import your next car from Great Britain to Ireland.

All vehicles listed are located at established garages across Great Britain. We handle the complex parts of importing so you can simply collect your car on Irish plates.

Prices shown typically include customs duty (where applicable), UK–Ireland transport, VAT, VRT and our professional handling. A warranty is optional. By reclaiming 20% UK VAT and, where possible, customs duty, we reduce the base used by Irish Revenue to calculate duty and Irish VAT — helping you avoid paying VAT twice.

Flexible, All‑Inclusive Service

If you have the time and interest, you can reduce the number of services in our package and lower your overall purchase price. Place a deposit as normal and, when we confirm your order by email, tell us which services you wish to remove. We’ll adjust the price accordingly.

Included as standard
  • Full mechanical & condition inspection report, with follow-up support to complete recommended repairs.
  • Guidance to ensure you have the correct documentation for Irish registration.
  • Cost‑effective import process including UK VAT reclaim to reduce duty and Irish VAT.
  • Customs clearance, including duty reclaim where applicable.
  • Trailer‑driven transport from the UK garage to Dublin Port.
  • Re‑registration in Ireland, including fitting new Irish registration plates.
  • Home delivery within Greater Dublin, or a €100 contribution towards delivery elsewhere in Ireland via our partner transport company.
Ways to customise & save
  • Exclude the mechanical inspection report: subtract €395.
  • Exclude customs clearance (€300) and trailer‑driven UK–Dublin transport (€700): subtract €1,000. This automatically removes VRT processing, reducing the price by the VRT amount.
  • Exclude re‑registration and VRT payment: subtract the VRT amount. You may instead collect from Dublin Port or take the car home yourself by ferry.
  • You may choose to use only our VAT reclaim service and manage all other steps independently.

If you exclude re‑registration — either by opting out of customs and transport or by removing only the re‑registration service — we will require proof of ID and proof of address in line with our anti‑fraud policies.

The 4‑Step Process

Step 1 – Place a Deposit

Choose a car on our site and click “Place a Deposit”. No payment is taken at this point. We’ll contact you to confirm details and how to pay the €2,000 deposit.

Step 2 – Independent Inspection

When your deposit is received, we secure the car and book a qualified mechanic to complete a full condition and mechanical inspection. You receive a detailed report with photos and a history check. If you decide not to proceed based on the report, we refund your deposit minus €395 for the inspection.

Step 3 – Purchase & Import

Once you’re happy to proceed, we issue an invoice for the balance. After payment, we purchase the car, complete customs and transport arrangements and book a VRT appointment. We’ll tell you which documents are needed to register the car in your name.

Step 4 – Registration & Handover

With VRT paid, your car is assigned Irish registration plates. We offer free home delivery in Greater Dublin or a €100 contribution towards delivery elsewhere, or you can collect the car directly. Your logbook is posted after motor tax is paid, and any warranty purchased is issued on delivery or collection. The whole process usually takes about two weeks.

Our Guarantee

If your car arrives and its condition or mechanics are significantly different from the mechanic’s report, we will bring the car back up to the standard of the report at no cost to you.
